Exhibits:
- Weather Vision Studio
Ever wonder what it's like to be a weather forecaster? Come and find out at our Weather Vision Studio presented by AccuWeather, Inc. and WJAC-TV!
- What a Shock!
The Van de Graf generator can give you quite a shock as you watch electricity jump from point to point-just like lightning.
- Allstate Catastrophic Weather Theater
What causes a tornado...or lightning...or a hurricane? Visit the Allstate Catastrophic Weather Theater to learn what's behind all this wild weather!
- Twister!
Have you ever seen a tornado... indoors?! Check out the 8 ft. tall tornado in our exhibit gallery.
- Local Postal History Display
Do you ever feel like someone is watching you and nobody is there?! Our location in an historic post office building lends itself well to telling the history of the U.S. Postal service in our area. Come and learn one of the building's most interesting secrets!
- PAWC Water Cycle
This exhibit at explores how water recycles through the ecosystem and explains the effects of drought and pollution on our environment. The Water Cycle exhibit, sponsored by Pennsylvania-American Water Company, allows visitors to push a button to make it rain and begin the water cycle. Watch as the water gathers in ponds and wells and also soaks into the ground, but does not soak in where there are roads, for example, showing the damaging effects of erosion. Some of the ground water will come out as springs where it will flow into creeks and then into a river where it will evaporate and begin the cycle again.
- Hot Air Balloon
See how hot air causes the balloon to rise all the way to the ceiling!

The Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center is housed in the former U.S. Post Office building in downtown Punxsutawney. The beautiful 1914 structure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. After acquiring the building, the Punxsutawney Weather Center, Inc. set out to develop its plan for an interactive education center devoted to weather science and weather folklore. When fully operational, the Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center will be a year round destination for school groups and tourists. We are entering the final stages of development and anticipate a Grand Opening in Fall 2005.

The Mission of the Punxsutawney Weather Center, Inc. is
- To present the science of weather prediction in a pleasant, enjoyable and easy to understand manner.
- To educate a variety of groups, individuals, ages, and cognitive levels about the weather using folklore, history, science and technology.
- To enhance Punxsutawney's (the home of Groundhog Day) claim as the Weather Capital of the World by opening a unique, inexpensive and informative center for weather education and weather technology.

A work in progress...
The Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center has come a long way since the purchase of the old U.S. Post Office building in 1999. We're proud of what we've accomplished and very excited about our plans for the future. From restoration of our historic building, to the creation of new and interesting exhibits, from planning special tours and field trips to finding new sources of revenue, the work still to be done at the Weather Center is substantial. Some projects currently in the works include: refinishing the original hardwood floors in the main gallery, creation of a quarterly newsletter, purchasing a water cycle display, and commissioning a local artist to paint a weather wall mural to recognize donors.
We would be delighted to recognize you as a supporter of these projects and others at the Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center. Please send your tax-deductible donation to:
